United States Firefighters give course to Volunteers in Valparaíso

Valparaíso.- Between Thursday 3rd and Sunday 6th of May, the “Fire Operations” course, taught by North American professional firefighters, members of the Departments of the University of Buenos Aires, was held at the DUOC-UC Hall of Avenida Brasil in Valparaíso. Firefighters from Austin (Texas) St. Paul (Minnesota) and Tulsa (Oklahoma) who have traveled specially to the port city, to share their diverse knowledge.

This course is given to officers and firefighters of the “Mother Body”, as well as members of the Fire Department of Viña del Mar, who were specially invited to participate in this important training.

Among the subjects dealt with in these intense days, were: incident command system, rapid intervention teams, technical rescues, fire behavior, establishment of the command post, among others.

It should be noted that, in addition, the course was held in two days on Saturday and Sunday, in the “Monument to the Fireman” (Avda. Brasil corner Freire) in which elements such as: ladders, hoses, autonomous breathing equipment and the positioning of car bombs.

This training course is added to the one recently imparted by the members of the “Fire Rescue International Training Association International (FRITA) of Canada, who likewise, in recent days, gave their knowledge to the members of the Fire Department of Valparaíso, with the delivery of the “Workshop on Fire Fighting” and complete training courses for “Command Officers”.
